Cole Palmer, a new acquisition for Chelsea this summer, has shared his thoughts on leaving Premier League champions Manchester City for the Blues.

During the summer transfer window, Chelsea locked up Palmer to a long-term contract.

The 21-year-old, who started for the England Under-21 team in their Monday triumph over Luxembourg, revealed he joined Mauricio Pochettino’s club to get more first-team playing time.

“I’m not saying I shied away from the competition (for places at Man City) because I have never done that,” Palmer stated, as quoted by Metro UK, when asked about why he decided to join the west London club.

“I’d been around (the first team) for a while and wanted more of a chance to play, specifically in my position, and make a bigger impression.

The choice to relocate to Chelsea was a major one. On Thursday, I finished my workouts knowing that I would be flying to London the following day. I’m sitting in my car and having a sudden epiphany. Just now I realized, “you’ve been here for 15 years.”

For me, there is no distinction. My experience with loans is zero. My entire life, I’ve lived in Manchester. Outside of vacations and away games, Manchester is the only place I’ve ever been. Going there does feel uncomfortable, but there is no time to spend. I need to get to work on that.
