Ashleigh Plumptre, a defender for the Super Falcons, has spoken out about why she hasn’t been playing recently.

After her impressive performance at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, the center defender from Saudi Arabia’s Al-Ittihad has been out of action for Nigeria.

Some have questioned interim head coach Justin Madugu’s decision to bench Plumptre.

The athlete, who had previously played for Leicester City, stated that she had decided not to play for the nine-time African champions at this time.

It has been a while, I suppose. Taking care of my body is more of a personal decision, hence I haven’t been able to go to the forthcoming camp,” Plumptre told Nigeria Football.

Having a good time with the squad is my ultimate goal, though. It’s an honor. In addition, I aim to be in peak physical condition so that I can participate in crucial games.

For the Super Falcons, she has played in fifteen games.
