On Friday, INEC came under fire from Abuja’s Court of Appeal, which alleged that the electoral body was biased. When giving the main decision in the case concerning the Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Justice K. I. Amadi made this statement.

The Appeal Court found it unusual that the Commission had come before it to intervene in an election dispute by denying responsibility for documents it had issued and verified.

Even though it was meant to remain impartial in election matters, the electoral board was criticized for continuing to “dance naked in the market,” according to the complaint.

The institution of INEC should be reminded of its function as an election’s neutral arbiter, INEC.

“It should stop behaving irresponsibly, having in mind that its duty to conduct elections has a direct bearing on peace and well-being of the country,” it stated.

In a unanimous decision, the tribunal overturned INEC’s certification of Bauchi State House of Assembly Speaker Abubakar Suleiman as the winner of the state’s Ningi Central Constituency election.
