The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has claimed that its members are in danger because unidentified gunmen are plotting to assassinate the party’s leaders and storm the party’s national secretariat.
Acting national chairman of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) Abba Kawu Alli wrote to the Inspector General of Police, titled “Threat to Lives of Some NNPP Leaders: Request for Action to Protect Lives and Property,” saying, “We wish to use this medium to inform your good office of reports of threat to lives and property of some leaders of our great party, the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
We have credible evidence that “unknown gunmen” are plotting an attack on our party’s National Secretariat and have targeted some of our party’s top officials for assassination.
We are utilizing this forum to ask for a full probe of this report and for increased security for the party’s national headquarters and top officials. The New Nigeria Peoples group (NNPP) is a peaceful group that has never employed or deployed violence to force home its demands.
“It would be noted that repeated attacks on the party in the past have never prompted reprisals from us because we think no country can prosper in an atmosphere of chaos. As a result, we beg you to please give our request your immediate attention.
