Delta frees 13 prisoners from various facilities

Thirteen convicts from Delta State’s five prisons have been released.

Justice Theresa Diai, the chief judge of Delta State, who ordered their release, claimed that 1,477 warrants were examined at the state’s five prisons over the course of the three-week long operation.

Those set free faced charges including robbery, attempted murder, and conspiracy in addition to membership in an illegal organization.

Justice Diai explained that the DPP had recommended that they be released since they were innocent of the charges against them.

During the fourth quarter, corrections officers at Ogwashi-uku Correctional Centre evaluated 358 warrants and freed eight offenders.

Osita Dike, Obinna Blessed Onyekwelu, Jerome Sunday, Akighir Sekav, Claus Manasseh, Abdulrahman Idris, Albishamin Emmanuel, and Akilu Haladu were among those who were released from the penitentiary.

According to her, the Warri Correctional Centre evaluated 502 warrants and released three convicts. One offender was released after 167 warrants were checked at the Sapele Correctional Centre.

According to the Chief Judge, 282 inmate release requests were processed at the Kwale Correctional Centre. A total of 168 release requests were processed while at Agbor Correctional Centre, and one person was released.

The Director of Public Prosecutions and the other participants earned praise from Justice Diai for their efforts.
