For the murder of his neighbor’s cow, a 45-year-old native doctor named Michael Oyewole was handed a 12-month prison sentence on Thursday by an Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court.

The ex-felon, who lives in the Araromi Alakaloko Olomore neighborhood of Abeokuta, entered a not guilty plea on all three counts, which included conspiracy, theft, and the intentionally and unlawful slaughter of a cow.

The prosecution, however, succeeded in establishing the convict’s guilt beyond a reasonable doubt, according to Magistrate O.O. Odumosu.

Oyewole was given a 12-month jail term for stealing and a six-month prison term for knowingly and unlawfully killing the cow, with the opportunity to pay a fine of N10,000.

For the offender to have the choice to pay a fine, the magistrate ruled that he must first pay the complainant N400,000—the amount equal to the worth of the cow he slaughtered.

She went on to say that the sentence ought to run simultaneously.

According to ASP Olakunle Shonibare, the prosecution’s counsel, the offender committed the crime on June 3 at approximately 11:00 p.m. in the Olomore area of Abeokuta’s Alakoloko Unique Estate.

.

Mr. Hakeem Ominrinde’s cow, worth N400,000, was stolen by the escaped convict and others, according to Shonibare.

Sections 516, 383, and 450 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun 2006, he claimed, were violated by the crime.
