Montpellier manager Michel Der Zakarian thinks Jerome Akor’s initial influence at the club has astonished him.

In the summer, the Nigerian striker joined La Paillade from Lillestrom in Norway.

The 23-year-old has adjusted in nicely in his new surroundings, putting in great performances for the former Ligue 1 winners.

Akor has seven goals in 11 appearances for Montpellier.

Only Kylian Mbappe of Paris Saint-Germain has scored more goals in the French top division this season.

“I’m taken aback by what he’s doing. He swiftly acclimated to a difficult championship. “He’s very good at scoring goals and creating chances,” Der Zakarian told Allez Paillade.

“He has good sequences, decisions, technical gestures, and he enjoys working.” I’m not sure if it’s a fluke, but he scored 24 goals in 2023.”

Despite Akor’s impressive start to life in Norway, Der Zakarian believes the former Flying Eagles striker needs to improve in a few areas.

“He can still make significant progress.” Because of his size, he can perform better in the air, both in terms of timing and movement. His consistency and hold-up play are noteworthy. “It’s surprising that he repeats high-intensity runs,” the former Nantes boss continued.
