Alan Shearer, a former England striker, has singled out Chelsea captain Reece James for criticism following the Blues’ 4-1 loss to Newcastle United on Saturday.

In the 73rd minute, James was given a second yellow card for a foul on Anthony Gordon.

After recovering from a hamstring injury, the right-back has started the Blues’ previous three Premier League games, but he will now serve a one-match ban.

Shearer commented on BBC Radio: “Chelsea were terrible in the second half.”

“Newcastle made them look bad by putting them under pressure.”

“Kieran Trippier performed admirably, but Reece James did not.” Anthony Gordon put him through a lot, and he became frustrated.

“Gordon appears to be having a great time at Newcastle.” James was taken away due to his frustration.”
