Mikel, who recently retired from professional football, claimed that his finest hour came in Chelsea’s Champions League final victory over Bayern Munich in 2012.

The Nigerian was a vital cog in Chelsea’s midfield when they won the Champions League in Germany, defeating Bayern Munich 4-3 in penalties.

After 120 minutes, the 2012 Champions League final finished in a 1-1 tie.Even though Didier Drogba and Petr Cech deservedly stole the show that night, many fans still credit Mikel with being the team’s best performer during the full 120 minutes.

“My best-ever game [Chelsea’s 2012 Champions League final against Bayern],” Mikel was reported by Chelsea’s official website as saying.

“Didier [Drogba] certainly came through and saved the day, but I should have won man of the match. A few times after the fact, I rewatched that game.

“There is nothing better than this,” he added.

In 2017, Mikel made the decision to leave Chelsea and sign with Chinese club Tianjin TEDA.

The 36-year-old athlete is no longer playing football at the professional level.
