To prevent attacks on first responders, the Federal Capital Territory Fire Service (FCT-Fire) has announced it is coordinating with law enforcement and other security authorities.

On Monday in Abuja, the service’s spokesman, Mr. Ibrahim Tauheed, told reporters that the organization was also working with local communities to raise awareness of the significance of its job.

“To deter hoodlums from interfering with our fire-fighting activities, we are considering enhancing community interactions through outreach programmes to promote awareness about the necessity of our work.

To combat this disturbing trend, he said, “collaboration with local authorities and community leaders, including district heads and chiefs,” be pursued.

The spokesman pledged continued strong cooperation with law enforcement to give backup during emergencies, with the goal of preventing criminals from attacking firefighters and looting businesses.

The recent Samsung warehouse fire incident is a prime illustration of how a big group of criminals attacked our staff in order to gain access to the building and carry out their criminal plans.

Together, law enforcement and community leaders can provide the much-needed security our employees require, as Tauheed put it.
