A new set of half-salary debts owed to government employees have been settled by Ademola Adeleke, governor of Osun state.

The government of Rauf Aregbesola is responsible for the debt.

The salary debts were not addressed during the administration of Adegboyega Oyetola.

This is the fourth payment made by Adeleke’s government, according to a statement issued by the governor’s spokeswoman, Olawale Rasheed.

This announcement brought to light an earlier arrangement with pensioners to settle a hefty N75 billion in outstanding pension and gratuity, as well as the fact that Governor Adeleke had authorized a phased payment plan to handle the 30-month half salaries obligation.

Among the governor’s first acts in office was ordering the Head of Service to issue a circular outlining a payment plan that would be phased in over time.

At multiple rallies last year, I announced that, if elected, our administration will immediately begin processing payments.

Upon taking office, I followed my boss’s instructions and drafted a circular outlining the Head of Service’s phased payment plan.

The employees have my word that we will follow the circular. Just like past welfare programs, this one will keep rolling out to both working-age and retired people.

“I am dedicated to seeing through the payment of palliative allowances that I recently authorized for all employees and retirees in the state, including those employed by local governments,” Adeleke declared.
