The Ogun State Command of the Nigeria Customs Service reports recovering 122 contraband articles for a total of N398,470,687.
Revenue from luggage assessments and auction sales of petroleum commodities confiscated by the Command totaled N30,408,276.00, the Command reported.
When compared to the N5,487,076 in sales recorded at the same time a year ago, this year’s total is an increase of about 400%.
Acting Customs Area Controller, Ogun Area 1 Command, Deputy Comptroller Amadu Shuaibu, briefed the press at Idiroko on the seized goods, which included 901 parcels of Cannabis Sativa, commonly known as Marijuana or Indian hemp, and 500 pieces of foreign-used Pneumatic Tyres, commonly known as Tokunbo tyres.
In addition to the 4,684 bags of foreign parboiled rice in 50kg sacks, the equivalent of eight caravan loads, authorities also seized 23 vehicles that had been used to carry illegal goods, as well as five foreign secondhand automobiles known as Tokunbo.
According to Shuaibu, “from the 1st to the 31st of October, 2023, the Command generated the total sum of N30,408,276.00 as revenue, through baggage assessment and auction sales of seized petroleum products.”
He said that the Command’s unrelenting efforts and resiliency in protecting the thronging youth from hazardous narcotics that may either shorten or render their lives meaningless was evidenced by the constant seizure of Cannabis Sativa, foreign-used pneumatic tyres, and other dangerous products.
