Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) involving transportation infrastructure and other projects have been considered by the Austrian and Nigerian federal governments.
Manji Yarling, the Acting Head of Media and Publicity at the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC), made this announcement on Wednesday in Abuja.
During a courtesy visit to Michael Ohiani, the Director-General of the International Committee of the Red Cross, and the ICRC Management team, Austrian Ambassador to Nigeria Thomas Schlesinger requested cooperation, according to Yarling.
Gerd Grobminger, VP of global sales operations of the Austrian firm Kapsch TrafficCom, which is interested in public-private partnership (PPP) initiatives in the transportation sector, was reportedly accompanying the ambassador.
According to Yarling, the company has extensive expertise managing transportation-related projects in countries including Italy, South Africa, and Germany.
In his remarks to the group, Ohiani emphasized that the commission has the legal duty to oversee all public-private partnerships (PPPs) in Nigeria.

The first phase of the Highway Development and Management Initiative (HDMI) Project, which consists of nine road segments, is awaiting financial closing, according to Ohiani. The project has already signed agreements with its selected bidders.
